Specifications

What are the 'specifications'?

A specification is a written description of a commodity, and it includes the specific requirements that the vendor must follow to meet the World Food Programme's contract for delivering our commodities.

Why are specifications important?

The adoption of proper food specifications safeguards that WFP will purchase and distribute food that is safe, of good quality and able to satisfy the nutritional needs of each WFP beneficiary.

WFP specifications

WFP food specifications for all commodities aim to align the Codex Alimentarius standards, the national legislations (i.e. Standards) and any restrictions of the destined country (e.g. GMO, fortification, microbiology levels, etc.).

Special nutritional products

Refers to the range of specialized food products and supplements that provide varying levels of energy, micronutrients, and macronutrients necessary for growth and health in order to prevent or treat undernutrition.
